tide gauge

The tide gauge shows its secrets !

Refurbished, the tide gauge will reveal its secrets to the public from May 1 to 12, 2019 ! After a 3-month restoration in the Gardanne workshops, it is now in service. 1500 visitors will have the chance to observe it ! The tide gauge is the measuring device that sets the reference level 0 in France.

It was built on the Corniche Kennedy in Marseille in 1883, and still allows us to calculate the average sea level today ! The very complex mechanism of the tide gauge is very fragile, but also very impressive to see. However, a digital tide gauge works in parallel to obtain more accurate measurements.
