The second act of SAIL GP took place on May 4th and 5th, 2019, in San Francisco. After an incredible race in Sydney, Australia, the teams performed well in the U.S.
The Japanese took the lead on the first day with 3 wins in 3 races. The French have experienced some difficulties. Timothé Lapauw, a replacement for Vannetais Devan Le Bihan who was injured in training, suffered a minor leg injury. Nicolas Heintz then replaced him for the last two races. The French finally finished 5th, 6th and 6th.
Great Britain won the first set on the second day and Australia won the other two. Australia finally remains at the top of the overall ranking !
Billy Besson explained, in an interview with Voiles et Voiliers, that the conditions were quite difficult, with a wind at 20 knots. This race was very eventful, with boats that almost capsized ! But the athlete remains very optimistic about the continuation of the SAILGP !
Overall ranking after the Sydney and San Francisco event :
- Australia 95 pts
- Japan 91 pts
- Great Britain 79 pts
- United States 68 pts
- France 61 pts
- China 60 pts
After this second act the next stage for the SAIL GP teams will take place on 21 and 22 June in New York. We can wait for the great final in Marseille in September !
